There are hundreds of different baits, maybe even
thousands, used for carp world wide. The possibilities are endless.
There are many carp sites that describe these baits in great detail
but I will stick to my simple recipes that have worked very well for
me. Boilies (boiled doughballs) are a very popular bait for carp, for
a detailed description of how to make them click here.
Paste bait ( doughballs )
My basic recipe:
A loaf of bread (just about any kind of white bread,
preferably a bit stale)
White flour
Imitation vanilla flavoring
Imitation maple syrup
Mush up the bread with enough vanilla and maple to
make it soft and sticky and then work in enough flour to get the
texture you desire.
Obviously you can use whatever flavorings you wish but
these have been the most productive for me. I use the imitation as
opposed to the extracts so that I can use a lot without the danger of
over flavoring and ending up with a bitter bait.
Some other good choices for flavorings are:
Strawberry Jam
Peanut butter
Anise oil
Strawberry Jello ( in powder form )
When the paste baits don't seem to be working my next
choice is canned whole kernel corn. There are times when this will
outfish the paste baits particularly when the fish are picking up the
bait but dropping it right away. When they pick up the corn they seem
to hold on longer.
