My good friend and neighbor Bill Cline has been indicating an
interest in carp fishing lately so we decided to give it a go this
last weekend. I did a bit of prebaiting on Saturday morning and we
started fishing that evening. There were a lot of fish jumping and
rolling but they were not yet seriously feeding.
On Sunday morning we started to get a few runs and we caught 3 or 4
small fish of about 4 or 5 lbs. We tried it again late in the
afternoon and Bill caught his first decent sized carp, a hard
fighting 10 lb'er pictured on the right. I caught a few to 12 lbs and
Bill kept losing them. They were'nt breaking his line, they just kept
getting off the hook.
We started early on Monday morning and Bill was still having trouble
getting fish to the bank but he took it in stride knowing that his
luck would improve. I caught a couple of small fish and one nice one
of about 12 lbs. Bill had some business to take care of so we quit
for the morning at around 11:00 am. We gave it one last effort at
around 3:00 pm and Bill caught a scrappy 12 lb'er pictured on the
right. I caught 2 or 3 more decent fish and Bill caught at least one
more. We quit at around 6:00 pm and Bill was still smiling from ear
to ear. He realized that he was now addicted to carp fishing, he was
very impressed with their amazing fighting qualities.
