Final Results of the Carp Anglers Group Invitationals: June 26, 2004 at Clear Lake

Clear Lake in Northern California is an untapped carp fishery, it has a healthy population of carp of all sizes including some over 30 pounds. It is quite common to catch a half dozen fish from 8 to 15 pounds in a 3 or 4 hour session. My personal best so far is 23 pounds 3 ounces.

Click on the image on the right for photos of my new place in Lucerne. We've already caught carp up to 17 lbs here and we only moved in on August 3, 2005.

Clear Lake also contains largemouth bass, channel catfish, white catfish, brown bullheads, white and black crappie, bluegill and several other varieties of sunfish but this site is strictly about carp. For more info on catfish and bass at Clear Lake check out my CatfishED.com site.

Most of the information on these pages is specifically for Clear Lake California although a lot of it may be applicable to any waters that hold carp.

I have fished for carp for over 45 years although I only became obsessed with them in the last five years. I caught my first carp in Spreckles Lake in Golden Gate Park in San Francisco California when I was about 15 years old and I have never forgotten the thrill it provided.

The warm weather we've been having has finally gotten the carp on the bite.  I took a ride to Redbud Park in Clearlake City and caught 4 carp weighing from 8 to 12½ lbs. They were all caught freelining with prepared maize. I'm sure they are biting in my area but there have been so many bass boats fishing the FLW (Everstart) tournament that it's been impossible to fish it.

This will probably be the last report for this year since the cold, rainy weather has taken over which will shut down the carp fishing. We had several really good days at M & M including Friday November 5th when I managed to catch 29 carp ranging in weight from about 8 lbs to around 16 lbs using light gear with 8lb test line. My good friend Terry Mardell (known as T-Angles on the forum) came up on Wednesday November 3rd to celebrate his birthday on the 4th and fished through Saturday November 6th. He caught many nice carp during his stay and had a great birthday.

Mary and I decided to give M & M Campground a try for carp today since winter is almost here so we might as well get in some fishing while we still can. Click here for the whole story.

We had a CAG "Fish-In" (informal carp angling get together) on the 1st and 2nd of October at M & M Campground and everyone caught lots of fish. Click here or on the image to the left for photos and a report.

I'm sorry for not updating this site for so long. I changed webhosts recently and had a lot of web related work to do. We have been catching a few carp from "Bite Me Beach" out in front of my place. We haven't been down to M & M Campground since the CAGI on June 26th but I imagine the carp fishing is pretty good there since from now until the middle of November is generally the best time of year for M & M.

June 6, 2004
I haven't done much carp angling in the last month so there really isn't much to report. A few locals have been catching an occasional carp off the seawall area near my house but I haven't been able to get a bite. There have been a lot of fish cruising the area and jumping but they have not been willing to take my baits.  Hopefully it will improve soon. Meanwhile we're getting ready for the CAGI on June 26th at M & M Campground. I hope to see lots of carp enthusiasts there...........Ed

Sorry I haven't updated recently,  fishing out front off the seawall has slowed down. There were a few caught last week but it's been a long wait between strikes. There are so many threadfin shad that I think the carp are fattening themselves on them instead of our bait offerings.

Mary and I fished M & M Campground with Terry from Sacramento last Monday. Mary caught 3 and I only managed one for 5½ hours fishing. Terry caught 12 for the trip up to 16.4 lbs. He fished about 8 hours on Monday and a half day on Tuesday. Click on the image on the left for a larger pic of the 16.4.

March 4, 2004 First carp for 2004
The water temperature has started to rise and the carp have started some serious feeding.  I caught 3 fish weighing from  5 to 18 lbs on the 3rd and 3 from about 7 to 11 lbs today. We're catching all our fish by freelining with sweet corn (canned corn).  Click here for more photos.

Paul Freeman,  "Tijuana Tommy", Barry & John fished M & M Campground from Friday noon till Sunday noon. They encountered severe rain and windstorms, had several inches of rain in their tent but still managed to catch around 48 carp weighing up to 19 lbs for their efforts. Tommy claims to have caught the majority of fish himself, saying that Barry and John weren't really anglers. Mary and I stayed warm at home but we visited them this morning and I got the photo of Tommy with a 12 lb'er above.  They caught most of their fish with Paul's homemade strawberry flavored boilies and the rest with prepared maize.

The carp are still biting in front of my house (Bite Me Beach). Bill Cline, Joe Monaco, Mary and I fished there today and caught about 8 or 9 fish. It wasn't red hot but everyone caught fish. I caught the biggest, a 16 lb'er. Click on the image on the right for a larger photo of my 16 lb'er.
