Carp
Anglers Group members Frank and Narda Walters of Las Vegas
Nevada are on a quest to catch a carp in all 50 states, so far Frank
has caught in 28 states and Narda in 24. Frank emailed me about
coming to Clear Lake to catch Narda's California carp and of course I
was more than happy to help. We ironed out the details and they
arrived on the evening of July 9th. The carp fishing here at Clear
Lake slowed down to a crawl a few days before their arrival so I was
very apprehensive as to Narda catching a carp.
We fished at Library Park in
Lakeport on the first day and although both Frank and Narda had a few
good takes I caught the only carp, a 12 pounder.
We went to Stubbs Island ( M
& M Campground ) on the second
day and things started to improve slightly. Narda's bite alarm went
off and she was on to a powerful fish but after an exciting battle a
9 pound channel catfish came to the net, although
she enjoyed the battle it was no help towards her goal of catching a
California carp. A short time later her alarm went off again but it
turned out to be a 4 pound white catfish, also lots of fun but not
what we wanted. Later in the day one of my baitrunner reels started
screaming and I
landed a hard fighting 18 pound 8 ounce carp on a bread ball.
Nothing much happened after that until around 8:00pm when Narda
yelled those wonderful words "fish on!" and after a tough
battle brought her first California carp to the net, an 8 pound 8
ounce torpedo that fell for a bread ball. Now
that the pressure was off and we were all just relaxing Narda again
said those magic words "fish on!" and proceeded to bring an
11 pound 2 ounce carp to the net. Frank didn't catch a single fish
but their trip was a complete success as he already had his
California carp from Big Bear Lake in Southern California although he
admits that Narda's first carp of 8 pounds 8 ounces was more than
double the weight of his fish.
I just want to say that Frank
and Narda Walters are among the nicest people I have ever met, I
thoroughly enjoyed fishing with them and am looking forward to
joining them at the first ever Las Vegas Fish In March 1st, 2nd and
3rd, 2002 at Lake Mead. Frank and Narda are organizing the fish in
and as soon as the details are ironed out I'll post them on the home
page and they will be available on the C.A.G
site as well......CarpheadED
