     The bass fishing is still on the slow side for most anglers.

     Bob Higgins of Limit Out Bait & Tackle in Clearlake Oaks says most bassers are catching only 2 to 4 fish for a day's effort. Senkos and crankbaits fished over rocks in 8 to 15 feet of water are accounting for most of the fish. Bob did have one report of two anglers catching 14 bass while fishing rocky areas at night with large black crankbaits.

     Al Freitas of Don's Bait & Tackle in Clearlake reports slow to fair fishing with Senkos and live jumbo minnows fished in rocky areas for bass running 2 to 4 pounds.

     The lake level is dropping and is at 3.50 feet on the rumsey gauge, 7.56 is considered "full pool".

July 12, 2001

     The bass fishing remains very slow all over the lake. The night fishermen are doing a little better than the daytime anglers but not enough to make it worthwhile.

     Al Freitas of Don's Bait & Tackle in Clearlake says the best anglers are getting 2 or 3 fish for a day's effort. There is no real pattern, plastics, topwaters, crankbaits etc. are all accounting for an occasional fish. Quite a few anglers are resorting to using jumbo minnows and they are catching 5 or 6 fish for a day's effort.

     Night fishermen are doing a little better, 4 or 5 fish a night, tossing large dark colored crankbaits around rocky areas in 6 to 12 feet of water near Rattlesnake Island and at Rocky Point.

     Persistent bassers are catching 2 or 3 fish per day skipping small grubs and Senkos under floating docks especially in the north end of the lake.

July 19, 2001

     The bass fishing is fair to good especially in the south end of the lake around rocky areas at night.

     Al Freitas of Don's Bait & Tackle in Clearlake says live jumbo minnows are accounting for up to 10 fish per boat running 3 to 5 pounds fishing rocky areas in 20 to 30 feet of water at such hotspots as Frazer Point, Shag Rock and Jago Bay. Night fishermen are catching 3 or 4 good fish per outing using dark colored crankbaits and Brush Hogs also in rocky areas in 20 to 30 feet of water.

     The north end of the lake is pretty slow. There are a few fish being taken on topwater lures in the early morning and late evening. Skipping grubs and tube baits under floating docks is producing a few fish during the day.

     The bass fishing is very slow for most anglers, a catch of 4 or more fish per person is considered very good.

RC Stephens from Limit Out Bait & Tackle in Clearlake Oaks says they are taking a few fish drop-shotting around rocky areas in 10 to 20 feet of water, using Senkos and Brush Hogs is also producing in the same areas. Most of the fish are running from 3 to 5 pounds. Persistent topwater fishermen are scratching 1 or 2 fish in the early morning or late evening.

     Al Freitas of Don's Bait & Tackle in Clearlake says the fishing is running hot and cold meaning some anglers are doing quite well while a lot more of them are having trouble catching 2 or more fish a day. Baby Brush Hogs and Senkos are producing most of the action but they are taking a few on buzzbaits in the early morning and late evening.

     The north end of the lake is giving up a few bass by skipping small grubs and tube baits under floating docks but it's becoming difficult to find docks that aren't clogged up with weeds.
