June 7, 2001

There hasn't been much change in the bass pattern in the last week except that the topwater bite is improving a little.

Bob Higgins of Limit Out Bait & Tackle in Clearlake Oaks 707-998-1006 says most fishermen are having good results throwing Senkos and Dead Ringers outside of tules, under and around docks and in rocky areas in 6 to 30 feet of water. Most bass are ranging from 2 to 4 pounds in size. Bob adds that the topwater bite using plastic frogs on the weed beds is fairly good in the early morning hours.

The north end of the lake is producing quite a few fish on plastic frogs on the weed beds early in the morning as well as some decent action skipping grubs and Senkos under floating docks during the day. The best time for skipping grubs under docks is midday when the fish seek the shade under them.

The lake level is dropping and is at 4.24 feet on the rumsey gauge, 7.56 is considered "full pool".

Most of the bass action has been in the north end of the lake due to strong winds in the south end.

Bob Higgins of Limit Out Bait & Tackle in Clearlake Oaks reports good catches of fish from 2 to 6 pounds in the north end of the lake using Senkos and Baby Brush Hogs especially at Aurora RV Park and Holiday Harbor in Nice. Bob adds that they are getting a few fish on topwaters early in the morning in the north end.

Al Freitas of Don's Bait & Tackle in Clearlake reports fair action from Lakeport to Rodman Slough with Senkos and live jumbo minnows for bass running from 2 to 4 pounds fishing around docks and outside of tule lines.

The summer pattern seems to be in full swing. The topwater bite is getting better every day.

Al Freitas of Don's Bait & Tackle in Clearlake reports good topwater action in the early morning with buzzbaits, Ricos and Chug-Bugs. Most anglers are tossing plastic worms and grubs around deep water docks and rocks in 6 to 10 feet of water for fair catches of bass from 2 to 3 pounds with an occasional 5 or 6 pounder.

Bob Higgins of Limit Out Bait & Tackle in the Oaks echoes Al's report and adds that some of his regulars are experiencing a good topwater bite in the late evening.

     Good Fishin.....Catfish Ed

The lake level is dropping and is at 3.85 feet on the rumsey gauge, 7.56 is considered "full pool".

June 28, 2001

The bass fishing has slowed down quite a bit in the south end of the lake but remains fair in the north end.

Terry Knight, Outdoor Columnist for the Lake County Record Bee caught 7 bass running from 2 to 4 pounds throwing Senkos inside tule lines in 3 to 4 feet of water near Lakeport yesterday.

Bob Higgins of Limit Out Bait & Tackle in Clearlake Oaks says the bass fishing has slowed down considerably in his area. Most anglers are lucky to catch 4 fish a day working topwaters in the early morning and plastics around rocks and docks during the day.

     Good Fishin.....Catfish Ed

The lake level is dropping and is at 3.63 feet on the rumsey gauge, 7.56 is considered "full pool".
